The McCarthy Road provides access into the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, extending from the town of Chitina. Drivers should be cautious as it is a narrow, gravel and dirt road that can be a rough ride and muddy in wet weather. Travel is not recommended for larger vehicles such as RVs, past mile 17.
