Eklutna Historical Park
More Info | + My Favorites
This park was founded in 1990 in order to conserve the culture and beliefs of the Athabascan people. It also portrays the disappearing heritage of the Dena'ina Athabascan Indians in the south central part of Alaska. This non-profit organization's specific purposes include: the promotion, devolopment, assistance, and enhancement of Elkutnar educational, social, and culture values. This historical park also includes a muesuem filled with native art and historical exhibits displaying native lifestyles and traditions. Also, the cemetery has colorful spirit houses, which use specific colors to identify specific tribes, and are placed over graves of relatives. Also Orthodox crosses can be seen on the gravestones of the deceased that once belonged to the Orthodox Church.
