    Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge

    Formed by the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers, the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge is home to many species of wildlife and birds. Visitors can access the refuge only by aircraft or boat via the community of Bethel, the regional hub offering flights and services. Contact the information center for details on hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and photography opportunities at the refuge.

    Alaska Botanical Garden

    Independence Mine State Historical Park

    This former gold mine is now a state historical park and includes a museum and visitor center, which is housed in the mine's original manager's house. The park is open during the summer season and offers self-guided or guided tours, as well as the opportunity to pan for gold.

    Kenai Fjords National Park

    This park near Seward offers a ranger station with exhibits and interpretive services, and information about the glacier and Harding Icefield. The park can be accessed by road, as can Exit Glacier in the summer. The fjords can be accessed by boat, and the icefield by air or trail.

    Bering Land Bridge National Preserve

    Access to this park is only by bush/float plane, small boat, or dogsled/snowmobile. They offer hiking, backpacking, hunting, fishing, and boating in summer, and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and dogsledding in the winter.     Kachemak Bay State Park and State Wilderness Park

    This southern Alaska state park is comprised of 400,000 acres (161871 ha) of mountains, glaciers, forests and ocean. The park can be accessed from Homer via air charters, water taxis and boat rentals. There are no roads that travel to the park. The park affords a host of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, kayaking and hiking.

    Kincaid Park
    Visitors and locals can take advantage of Kincaid Park, offering a wooded area filled with trails and green spaces for picnics and other outdoor activities. Located next to the park is the Kincaid Outdoor Center, which has several rooms/spaces available for rent to host weddings, picnics, company functions and other events. Access to the park is via the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail or Raspberry Road.

    Earthquake Park
    In 1964, the Good Friday Earthquake devastated south central Alaska, measuring 9.2 on the Richter scale. A walk through Earthquake Park features interpretive displays explaining the event and the geography of the region effected by the quake. Located on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, this park offers good views of the city along with Mount McKinley and Cook Inlet.

    Wrangell-St. Elias

    Three large mountain ranges converge in this park, and it contains the largest assemblage of glaciers and peaks above 16000 feet in North America. There is an abandoned copper mine in the park which is a national historic site.

    Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve

    This preserve is accessible by plane or boat from Eagle or Circle. There are scheduled hikes and programs at the preserve, as well as a visitor center in Eagle. Historic attractions in the park include Coal Creek Dredge and camp, which was a bush gold operation during the gold rush, and cabins used by trappers, miners, and woodcutters.
